Talking points 4 Christensen

When I was growing up as a kid, I was always taught that calling people names was always the bad thing to do when someone appeared different to you. In today's society parents start teaching some stuff they know to there children at a very young age and they will use that knowledge as they get older. If there taught that black/white people are bad people and they say you shouldn't go near those people because they will hurt you, those children will probably listen to there parents. As a young child the threat of getting into to trouble becomes more imminent. I don't think there is a "secret education" when it comes to teaching kids right or wrong, but when it comes to defining a person's race and telling them not to go near them is completely out of the question. Children are going to grow up and see people of all races, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and many other things that parents try to keep there children away from. If racist parents would simply learn people are people and there just trying to live normal everyday lives, there would be less hate, and wouldn't be telling there children ,"DON'T GO NEAR HIM". Even the child doesn't buy into it at an early age and they can move past it quickly, they shouldn't be saying racial slurs by the time they reach there teenage years. But when it comes there teenage years boys/girls will start dating. I wouldn't be surprised if parents are they way they are still they would probably say to there children if you date a black/white boy/girl do not bring them home and dump them right now. If the kid has a spine they wouldn't listen and continue what he/she is doing.

Now we have movies and cartoons that are racist and many young children are being introduced to it still at a young age. In the movie Peter Pan, there are so many racial things its not even funny to watch. I would have turned it off after the first racial thing that's in it. There was even about 7 to 11 racial cartoons made by Warner Brothers during WWII. They would cartoons about the Nazis, the Jews, and African Americans. They won't put them on the tv screens any more of how bad they were. For movies and cartoons to center there production on racial slurs is horrible. I understand it was the thing to do back then but I wouldn't let a son or daughter of mine watch it in the future.

The three quotes that i found useful were:

1. "We are nor only taught certain styles of violence, [he latest fashions, and sex roles by TV, movies, magazines, and comic strips: we are also taught how [0 succeed, how to love, how to buy, how to conquer, how W forger rhe past and suppress the future."

I believe this one means that if people can get buy all the negativity in the world, they would live happier lives.

2. "Many students don't want to believe they have been manipulated by children's media or advertising"

It is so easy to manipulate a child especially at a young age. Just take Santa for an example our parents lied to us about that. What a person says to a child a a young age, they will almost believe anything you say.

3. "Childrens cartoons, movies, and literature are perhaps the most Influential]
genre "read"

This is all a young kid watches when they grow up. Cartoons are great. There funny and and can keep a kid in front of the screen for hours. I should know because that is all i watched. Still when a kid watches these cartoons and they see anything bad in it they will start emulating it and will continue to do it.

In conclusion if children wouldn't listen to what there parents to say about people I think the kid would live a much happier and not racial life. I know people won't stop being racist and saying mean and horrible things but its shouldn't be taught to children at a young age. Once the know it and understand it, they will just take it and run with it. If there wasn't so much racist in the world today it would be so much different for society. Maybe people would be much happier about things.
